Go ‘green’ by wrapping yellow this Holiday Season

This Holiday season, our wrapping paper and shopping bags will create more than 4 million tons of waste that will fill up our landfills, unless you act now! Put this week’s Biffy “Green Tip” to the test and instead of wasting your money on shiny new wrapping paper, why not try using something around the house. How about one of the five old phone books sitting in your closet that hardly ever gets used?

If your gift is bigger than the standard pages of the phone book, simply tape some pages together (as many as needed), wrap a pretty bow (preferably a used recycled one) on it and voila!
If you want to get creative, use different areas in the phone book that can be tailored to the person receiving the gift. For instance, if you’re wrapping the gift for good old dad, you could use the pages from sections such as “Lawnmowers, Golf Equipment and Hardware Stores”.
If the phone book idea doesn’t float your boat, here are a few other options that you can use to wrap this years gifts:
- The Sunday Comics
- Newspaper
- Last years Calendars
- Old Magazines or Catalogues
Etc… Etc…
This weeks Biffy “Green Tip” isn’t limited to this Holiday Season, you can use this all year round for Birthdays, Graduations, Engagements, you name it!

For the past 3 years, I’ve been using brown paper bags. I get my kids to draw pictures all over the them that makes it more of a “personal” gift than some generic wrapping paper bought in the store.
